CHAPTER 1: Whole Numbers 1-999
Chapter 1 will equip pupils with knowledge required to
count numbers correctly from 1-999;
state the place value of a digit in a three-digit number;
order whole numbers;
use the symbol < and >;
mention the need for counting and ordering.
CHAPTER 2: Fractions
Chapter 2 will enable pupils to divide shapes into one-half, one-third, and one-quarter; write equivalent fractions; state fractions of a group of concrete objects, and mention the need for counting and ordering of fractions.
CHAPTER 3: Addition, Subtraction and Open Sentences
Chapter 3 activities will enable pupils to
add two-digit numbers with exchanging or regrouping;
subtract two-digit numbers with exchanging or regrouping;
add three-digit numbers;
subtract three-digit numbers;
add fractions with the same denominator;
subtract fractions with the same denominator;
mention the need for correct addition and subtraction in every day activities;
Solve open sentences.
CHAPTER 4: Multiplication and Division
At the end of Chapter 4, pupils should be able to give the products of 1 x 1 to 9 x 9; multiply one-digit numbers by two-digit numbers; multiply 3 one-digit numbers, taking 2 of them at a time; divide whole numbers by 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 without remainder; express whole numbers as a product of factors; distinguish between factors and multiples; carry out correctly multiplication and division in every day activities.
CHAPTER 5: Mensuration
Chapter 5 will enable pupils to change money into smaller units, use ideas of addition and subtraction to shop with money, perform simple multiplication involving money, measure the length and breadth and perimeter of shapes, compare standard and non-standard units of length, say times accurately in hours and minutes, give the dates of the year accurately, mention the importance of time in every day activities, mention and compare weights of objects, measure and compare volumes of items.
CHAPTER 6:
Chapter 6 will equip pupils with knowledge needed to
Identify shapes and objects with lines of symmetry;
State properties of squares, rectangles and triangles;
Describe real shapes with square, rectangular, and triangular surfaces;
Distinguish between curve and straight lines;
Draw squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles;
Read and represent information using pictograms;
Identify the features and usefulness of pictograms.
